It is hard to think of problems with dogs and after reading the article
about dogs who have been agressive with people, I realize that there
have been times where I was scared of certain dogs.
We lived down the street from a family who had dogs that were all
German Shephers that were very protective of their yards and family.
Living on a dead end street, my children were forced to walk past this
yard every day and had to catch a bus right across the street from
this same house. When I first walked the children to the bus stop and
we were new, I nearly froze with fright as I inched by across the street
to where the bus would pick up the children. The children soon learned
just to walk as far away as possbile and not to talk or look at the dogs.
Then one afternoon, after our children got home from school, there was
and incident that occurred when some new children were visiting our
neighbors house and one of the German Shepherds jumped the fence
and came after a 8 eight old boy. The boy was bitten very badly on the
face, arms, legs. Everyone on the block and everone who knew about
the dogs, were outraged. We all agreed that all of us were wondering
when this would happen. The owners of the dogs were very upset and
felt so bad. They did reinforce the fencing and the one dog was sent
to family member in the country.
But still, I can still feel the fright of the thought that it could have been
one of our children. And by the way, this dog that attacked was not
taunted by this boy. He was only playing a block away throwing a foot
ball back and forth with the neighbors boy. So, I guess there are times
that are hard to forget, even when you love dogs.
And again, we don't know what might have happened before we had
moved into the rental at this location. And there might have been
some bad occasions where these dogs were teased. Its hard to say what
would make this dogs act this way. With their owners they were so
friendly and loving. But with 4 large dogs together, is one got upset and
started to excite the others, it might have caused the frezy to fight.
Well, this is something that we have to deal with in this world where
things aren't perfect. |

It is sad, but I too have known some people in my life who were
afraid of dogs. Like when I was a teenager, a bunch of guys got out of
school early one day and went to go swimming in the river. When we got
there it was really hot day and there were people all over the beach area.
We were just interested in getting in the water and cooling off, we started
to run to the river and there was a huge black lab that was all of a sudden
running with us. One of the guys had a ball which he had brought along
for us to toss at each other. Well that dog, thought it must be for him and
took after the guy with the ball. To make a long story very short. We all
hit the water and this big dog came down on our friend and nearly drowned him. We all laughed and then realized it was a very bad situation.
By the time we got our friend out of the water, he was in bad shape and
we had to call for someone to help us. And since this time, our friend has never forgotten that experience, and says there is a cold chill that runs
over him whenever he sees a very large dog. |

I was walking Cuddles at the local park and there was a dog running
loose and didn't see anyone who was with him. The dog was very large
and Cuddles began to cry as it raced towards us. I reached down and
scooped up Cuddles as she started to whimper. The large dog took a
running leap and down I went and Cuddles all of sudden began barking
wildly and started to jump at the big dog. That was all that was needed
for me to jump to my feet and started to yell. As soon there was a young
man running real quick to our aid. And by the way, he was the owner
of the dog. He was so sorry and the big dog didn't bite or growl, but
seemed like he just wanted to play. But before we could make the point
he was gone with the dog and we got in the car and headed home.
It was very frightening for me, and took couple days before Cuddles settled down, and would walk in the park again. Its sad to have this
happened but IT DOES, AND CAUTION SHOULD BE TAKEN.
But I am not afraid to walk Cuddles, its just that I look around and
watch for other dogs, especially ones running loose. |
